The Corruption Notebooks are stories written by journalists to show how corruption manifests itself in their countries and provide broader context about the specific characteristics of the local culture of corruption.

The Notebooks are part of the Global Integrity Report because they have a unique mission: to tell the story behind the Integrity Indicators.

Every year, the indicators comprise more than 300 detailed questions assessing the existence and effectiveness of the national anti-corruption mechanisms in more than 30 countries, covering areas from government procurement and freedom of the press to political finance and civil service conflicts of interest.

The Notebooks provide a sample of what the score for each assessed area means in practice, offering vivid descriptions of the unique political, economic and cultural experiences that help to drive or curb corruption in each country.

We hope that adding context, faces and voices to the metrics will provide more complete information for local and international change agents to design and implement transparency reforms.
