Global Integrity is seeking an independent contractor to join our dynamic team in the role of Manager, Research. This part-time opportunity will focus on the Africa Integrity Indicators (AII) research, working closely with the Manager, Integrity & Anti-corruption, the AII program team, and an international network of contributors to produce, analyze, and disseminate high-quality research on transparency, accountability, governance, and human development issues.
Africa Integrity Indicators is entering its eighth round of research; the contractor will play a key role in managing and improving the research, quality control, and dissemination processes. This position runs through April 10, 2020, starting at 25 hours per week with the possibility of additional hours, depending on the needs of the project, with the majority of these hours based at the Open Gov Hub in Washington, DC. There is flexibility on how those hours are allocated through the week. However, the Manager is expected to do frequent check-ins and communicate with all team members to learn and report on the status of their portfolio multiple times a week.
Specifically, the Manager will administer a key portion of the Africa Integrity Indicators work, working in close communication with teams of in-country expert contributors and ensuring the integrity of data and data management.
Manage contributors (30%)
- Recruit and virtually manage teams of in-country contributors and respondents
- Provide capacity-building, training, and detailed feedback and guidance to researchers and contributors
Manage data quality control (60%)
- Perform detailed, high-intensity quality control over the resultant data points (in the thousands), including fact-checking and editing
Coordinate project logistical tasks (10%)
- Create and manage data templates for program content
- Contract management
- Payment management
- Tracking deadlines and ensuring progress toward those deadlines

Education, Experience, Qualifications
- Graduate degree in a relevant area of study, including but not limited to journalism, public policy, international relations, comparative politics, or development studies.
- Minimum two years of relevant experience in journalism, international development, political science, and/or related fields.
- Minimum two years of experience working on research and ensuring consistent application of indicator-based research methodologies.
- Knowledge of and experience working in Africa is strongly preferred.
- Resourcefulness performing online research and disposition to provide guidance to others.
- Experience in project management, including tracking contracts, payments, deadlines, workflow design, and virtual management of large teams of researchers.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, preferably with experience in both short- and long-form (from blog posts to white papers).
- Proficiency in the use of Google Suite and Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a professional but collegial communication style .
- Ability to thrive with little oversight in a complex operating environment, taking ownership of multiple work streams concurrently.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to Global Integrity’s mission.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other languages are an asset (particularly French).
